Now it’s smartness V/S talent!!!

After spending reasonable time in IT industry and passed through almost all cycles of times, I saw best, good, bad and worst times of industry. Seen industry shifting gears as & when customers/market demands. Industry tries almost all the methodologies in order to adapt themselves with the current market situations. In fact evolutions/innovations is still in progress.

Based on these so-called market conditions, industry tries to take available talented people in their realm. But I believe we should also look for smart people and not just talented.

Few days back one of my colleague/team-mate or most correctly friend suggested me to have a look to one of the youtube video link. It was related to “talent v/s attitude”, presented by Mr. Harsha Bhogle – A well known cricket commentator. In that program he explained the relevant facts very nicely giving examples of Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. After sincerely attending that program I clearly understood that person with enormous talent is not enough Person should have right attitude which is most important.

Going further ahead of this fact, I think the most obvious fact which we generally ignore is that if person is not talented that is OK, but he/she should be smart – to carry out his work with right attitude. Smartness helps person to handle situations and right attitude helps him to get success.

I read many books in line of same philosophy. My best favorites are Stephen Covey's 7 habits and 8th habit. In both the books author mentioned many theories with supporting examples. I believe both these two books have potential to grow any person to become effective and from effective to perfect. Now I think that there is a need to make people aware how they can be smart. I strongly believe that everyone has enough smartness in him/her, only thing is to find it for our self.

In my opinion we can categorize people in below categorize

1. Perfect/Excellent

2. Good

3. Above average

4. Average

5. below average

6. Poor.

It's very general observation is that most of the people around all of falls in average & above average category. In my opinion these are the people who keep their eyes closed and never look to any challenge as opportunity. Right attitude with discipline can help them to change their thinking and smartness can help to grow in the aforesaid categorize. Smartness tells you what to start, when to start and when to close/finish successfully. Closure/finish is as important as initiation and starting. If you are not good finisher, all the assignments will not finish successfully which will lead to many incomplete and un-successful tasks and cause more chaos.

Smartness can be enhanced by experience and by thinking. If people start thinking about the present and not past or future, I am sure their thinking will definitely improvise and smartness will grow enough to make them aware of handling situations.

That's why I strongly believe that if person is not talented, that's OK. But he/she should be smart enough with right attitude and discipline.
